Are you looking for a meaningful profession where you can truly make a difference? Do you enjoy hands-on learning and real-life practice? The healthcare sector urgently needs qualified nurses, and this new English-taught Bachelor of Nursing programme will start in September 2026.
After graduating, you can work in one of the seven professional domains of nursing: primary healthcare and home nursing, internal medicine, surgery, mental health care, elderly care, mother-and-child care, and paediatrics. As a nurse, you may provide direct patient care, coordinate care processes, contribute to care planning, or take on supportive leadership roles within a team.
To prepare you for this broad professional field, the curriculum includes subjects such as anatomy, physiology, pathology, clinical reasoning, and pharmacology. You will learn to care for individuals who are healthy, ill, or at the end of life. You will also become familiar with nursing policy, health promotion, and giving well-grounded advice to patients and families. Essential soft skills – including problem-solving, resilience, and effective communication in multilingual settings – are woven throughout the programme.
This practice-oriented programme is built on the CanMEDS competency framework, which describes the key roles and abilities required for nurses to meet the healthcare needs of diverse communities.
Workplace learning is essential: students complete at least 2,300 hours of clinical placement. During these placements, you work within healthcare teams and, through direct patient contact, learn how to provide safe and efficient care. Opportunities for international placements may also be available.
On campus, students train in simulation and skills environments designed to closely reflect real clinical practice. These settings help you develop confidence, apply theory to practice, and prepare for patient care in a safe, supported environment.
Important to know: Students who do not yet hold a B2 level in Dutch will follow compulsory Dutch language education. This supports effective communication in clinical settings and ensures that graduates are well prepared for employment within the Belgian healthcare system. Students who already demonstrate B2 proficiency may choose from other elective courses.

No specific prior knowledge is required. You should have the motivation and dedication for a career in healthcare where you can be a much-needed, caring team player. You should naturally want to work alongside people of all backgrounds.

De concrete inhoud van de functie is verschillend naargelang de tewerkstellingsplaats (algemeen ziekenhuis, gespecialiseerde dienst, eenheid voor intensieve zorgen, operatiezaal, …).
De meest voorkomende taken zijn: inspuitingen geven, geneesmiddelen toedienen, verbanden aanbrengen, wondverzorging, temperatuur opnemen, ademhaling en polsslag controleren en daar de aantekeningen van bijhouden, wassen en voeden van de patiënten.
Dit alles gebeurt op een wetenschappelijk verantwoorde manier, systematisch en probleemgericht, met aandacht voor de begeleiding van de zieke mens.
Wat de zorgverlening betreft, heeft de verpleegkundige een coördinerende taak.
Hij heeft ook een taak als tussenpersoon tussen arts en patiënt (observatie van de zieke en rapportering aan de arts).
Buiten de ziekenhuizen hebben verpleegkundigen ofwel de verzorgings- en begeleidingstaak die zij ook in het ziekenhuis hebben (bv. thuisverpleging) ofwel een taak in diensten voor preventieve geneeskunde.
